I'm currently in my second semester of te reo at AUT. I am also in a separate bubble to my mokopuna so I have been making pukapuka for them to stimulate their interest in te reo. This is a game I've made to practise some of the words they're learning. It's working! They're loving it because it's interactive and fun.

The tamariki at Te Pā Wānanga ki Omaka Marae in Wairau recorded a video to Papa Kiley Nepia to mihi to him for his birthday. He is the manager of Omaka Marae where our kura is based and pours out hours of his time to teach us so much. My class of Room 11 along with the other classes at Valley School in Pukekohe participated in the Maori Language moment by zoom with our classes. The children said our school timatanga and then we sang Tūtira mai ngā Iwi. Luckily I had the maori language teacher in my zoom session and she taught us the actions to the waiata which we all did along with the song. A fantastic moment to be treasured!

I am listening to waiata and learning about the history of te ao Māori.

Because I identify as a Māori it’s only appropriate that I meet and greet people with a simple Mōrena or Kia Ora as often as possible. Sharing kupu hou everyday during Māori language week, making people aware of how to pronounce our it properly and embracing the beautiful language that our ancestors fought to be taught in the education system to this very day! !
