Kia ora koutou! Today we would like to share a short video of our team of kaiako celebrating Te Reo Maori language in our own way. Since we are currently in lockdown, the video recording is a montage of ourselves in our own bubbles saying a waiata and karakia that ngā tamariki are familiar with. Although it’s a little different this time, Te reo is still alive in our kura, and we are excited to celebrate it with our whānau and all of you throughout the day! E iti noa ana, nā te aroha - Although it is small, it is given with love! Enjoy, and Kia kaha everyone!

I sent a message in te reo to my mokopuna. 'Aroah ahau ki a koe, kia kaha. Mā te mahi tahi e ora ai te moemoeā. '

We have been waiting to take part and we are very excited to do so. In our school we use www. waiako. com to practice phrases and learn spoken Te Reo Māori. This is our favourite waiata and we enjoyed taking part. Room 23 Cockle Bay School

Our Mihi :)

When I was 15 my much loved cat died after a long and healthy life. I buried him at the home I grew up in and planted a totara tree to be nourished by him. Years later, after both my parents had died, the time came to sell this place and, with the help of a friend I took some cuttings from the totara, now nearly five metres tall, to take with me. All but one died, and the new owners cut down the totara I had planted in order to build a deck. So this small seedling is my personal treasure and connection back to a time of both sadness and hope, Held by my feet and the earth I offer a karakia of hope and endurance over this still small form, for all that may feel lost and all that is still with us, even if only as tiny seedlings.

Kia ora
