Our workplace trades as Marlborough Primary Health, so befitting that the name gifted by Iwi also reflects that hard work put in during covid - Kimi Hauora Wairau. Nga mihi.

We are a very shy rōpu as you will see in the recording. However, it is all about participation and just giving it a go even if they are shy. You will notice that the students were quiet when recording (lol). Hoped that they would sing from their seats. Oh well, those that participated - enjoyed it.

In this video, I am singing our waiata "Tena koe". It holds a very special place in our hearts as it brings all the kaiako and tamariki together before our meeting times creating a feeling of togetherness and aroha.

I have always loved listening to & watching musicians. From back in 1983 I had the privilege of spending time throughout the year at Hoani Waititi marae with Te Roopū Manutaki as they created a new kapa haka piece for competition. Pita Sharples in particular was amazing to witness. I feel like I am almost from another planet to that which births musicians, but I was determined to at least teach myself a couple of waiata & to be able to play them on the guitar & sing along on my own. Te reo & te ao marama sparked for me during that time. Still not a speaker but absolutely know where I call home, in part because of the language that also comes from that place . . . here!

Kia Ora

Each day we do a Group time with the children 3 - 5 years of age where we learn about the three official languages of NZ/Aotearoa. We have a waiata, Pukapuka, and we use the online youtube videos of Tākaroa Tribe. As this week is Te Reo o te wiki Maori we are doing it all in Te Reo Waiata: Te horo nui Pukapuka He aha Tēnei Tākaroa Tribe Te Reo Rārangi āporo Each day follows the same pattern. All teachers are learning te reo and use it throughout the day. Not just this week.
