Kiaora Tatou, Here's our video from our Zoom Assembly this morning of our Staff, Students, Parents to help Celebrate Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori this year :) Ngaa mihi

We are in Lockdown so as a whānau we decided to waiata on Zoom together. . . . there was lots of enthusiasm (and not too much tuneful singing! ) engari, kei te pai tēra :)

We listened to Waiata Reo Māori on Spotify as we ate our kai.

My children share their Mihi to their whanau. We live in rural Australia, and cannot come home to be with whanau at present. I hope my children one day will korero Maaori with whanau, and feel the support during their journey. Ahakoa he iti, he taoanga o te ngakau.

I sang this with my Mum in the early 60’s but after spending a while in Australia it’s taken longer to embrace Te Reo Maori since returning. She knew German words to one of the Maori tunes I played, and we would both sing our version. She didn’t know German (her father was fluent) and I didn’t know Maori! But she was borne in Ngaruawahia so encouraged the connection I felt. It’s easier to learn this year with so many resources and so much encouragement ♥️

Waiata has always had a strong place in my heart, it helps me express myself. So for this moment I thought it would be a beautiful way to celebrate the importance of reo in my life. As a kaiako I also shared a small waiata to my tamariki and whānau, to help them celebrate too.

Ruma 2 - Te Kura Tuatahi o Pamapuria Ngā Tae me kupu hou

My little whanau in our Tamaki Makaurau bubble (Granny, Mum and 5 year old Ruby) sang the NZ National Anthem in Te Reo Maori today. It was lovely. It amazes me how well Ruby knows the words from having done it as part of assemblies at her school. It has been something that I learned at school over 35 years ago and I have loved singing it at formal occasions and sporting events ever since. A real sense of NZ pride. Kia ora!

Kia ora Koutou, As a teacher in Early Childhood, I often found singing challenging but I equally loved it. Singing alongside my fellow kaiako, I was inspired and gained confidence to my ability to sing. One goal set for myself was to regulate as much Te reo in my daily routine and this lead me to learn waiatas and greetings that help me become a confident and competent teacher. I hold a strong aroha and connection to waiatas such Tu tere mai nga and Te Aroha, because by reciting these beautiful songs helps me sustain, acknowledge and understand of the importance of Te reo and tikanga practices in Aotearoa.

Doing my best in L4 Lockdown to continue to bring te reo Māori to life for my tamariki in my childcare.

Some dedicated time with Taringa podcast - Tikanga 101 - Nga Tohu. I find this podcast series very insightful and often listen to it in the car, or going for a walk. The sections of Kupu, Iwi/Hapu, Tikanga, the Once Upon a Taima mix it up well and the hosts and guests give great context. Kia mau ki te mahi pai

I've decided to use my reo moment to revise the reo i've learnt on my course with Te Wananga o Raukawa. The video shows my many notes from the few weeks i've been a tauira.

Called a Colleague and greet them in Te reo and ask how they are doing today. We then had a discussion on some of the maori history arround "Aotearoa".

We did the te reo kahoot quiz as a family!

Kia ora, koutou. I am an immigrant of British descent, with English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh ancestry. First came to NZ in 1978, a landmark year for Te Reo teaching, and learned some Te Reo at primary school. Loved it. Since then, I've gone back and forth between the UK and NZ, and am now finally settled here permanently. I realised that Aotearoa had changed markedly since my youth, and sought some means of rekindling that lost sense of belonging. The Greed is Good era had really taken its toll on this fair land. Rediscovering aspects of Te Ao Maori made sense to me as the path to go down. I started learning Te Reo at home on my own last November. I lack confidence, and this is the first time I will have uttered Maori in front of anyone since my schooldays. It's beautiful, lyrical, and I am so glad I started this. Hope my pronunciation wasn't too bad. Kia ora rawa atu. Kia kaha Te Reo Maori!

Just wanting to share my love for te reo in my neighbourhood in our beautiful city of Òtautahi. Behind me. . . once stood a church. . . that was demolished after the Earthquake and I'm standing under a kowhai tree. Bricks & mortar may crash but our beautiful te reo will survive and flourish just like the kowhai tree.

Our team recited each others pepeha to each other. We found out a lot about each other's roots. And a lot about the Maori language, including more on pronunciations!

Listening to Lorde new Te Reo music - ka pai!

Kia Ora. Āe, ka pai. As someone supporting a non-Māori learner, we each message each other during our working day. Even though we are unable to speak due to our current work situation, we utilise technology. Kia kaha te korero Māori ❤
