Kia ora I am a beginner of te reo Maori and wanted to keep learning so I went to Ako to take some te reo Maori online lessons. Because Auckland is still in Level 4 so I am using my time everyday to learn more new words of te reo Maori. I have started from Episode one and today I am in Episode 13. I will keep learning and I hope to use them or practise with my kindergarten colleagues when we go back to work in Level 2. I am from Singapore and I love learning different languages. I can speak 4 or more other languages and te reo Maori is my next language I want to learn. Nga Mihi Belinda

Kia Ora, I korero au

We have been learning this waiata and nga tamariki really this.

Matt from our Workplace Services has been a champion in promoting te reo in our work place every day. This week has been no different. Here he is proudly wearing his new taonga.

Axel and I are checking in with how we are feeling today.

We gave our support to one of our staff members who was starting a new job at another childcare service by taking our children and staff along to her powhiri. We were shared a waiata as she was welcomed.

I used the Māori Language slides with my class and we played a Kahoot celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.

Kia ora, i waiata mātou kaimahi ia ata, ia ata, whakaako hoki mātou i te Te Reo Māori (kakano), ka whakairi ngā pikitia (ngā mea māori) kei runga te pakiwaitara, he mahi toi pea Hi, we sang waiata each morning, learnt some basic Te Reo and hung up some pictures (things māori) on the wall and perhaps some art. We are not artistic and the team has learnt a couple of karakia too. Note that pronunciation is an issue and our singing may not sound cool but kei te pai. Does anyone know where we can purchase resources to learn Te Reo? Games, flash cards etc. . . Personally this week has been challenging but enjoyable. Some have faced some criticism from home (95% of us are tauiwi) however this has not deterred us but made us stronger and more determined. Some have tried to get on Te Reo Classes but the waiting list. . . . we need more teachers!

This is my daughter's rendition of her Turangawaewae.

We are a small community Early Childhood Centre located in Te Whanganui a Tara. We sang our repertoire of waiata and kaiako surprised how long our waiata list became over the past few years. Our tamariki were growing as great advocates for te Reo Maori (in the form of waiata/kapa haka). They sang at noon and at the end of the day saying what they did at midday was just a practice! Here is our song list. Tutiro mai nga iwi, E rere taku poi, Te iwa o te Matariki, Nga taniwha o te whanganui a tara, E tu kahikatea, Tirama nga whetu, Waiata tinana, Te aroha, Oma rapati, Tahi-rua-toru-wha, A-E-I-O-U, Tēnā koe-hello to one, Pakipaki tamariki-ma. We keep on growing to arohatia te reo Māori. 😀

We sang Hari Huritau to our birthday whānau.

I am a Sustainability teacher in the Auckland region. For my online class and student work this week they got to pick activities that incorporated going out in the environment and learning te reo. Some tasks included going on a native tree scavenger hunt, with the id guide in te reo. Another task was to learn the names of 10 geometric shapes in te reo and then go outside and find these shapes in nature. They could also participate in this Moment as one of their activities. I listed to the Spotify Waiata Reo Māori playlist for that hour (and more) while I did school work. I have thoroughly enjoyed this week and the Māori Language Moment. As an expat from Alaska I have so much to learn and I am grateful for the experience to be involved in incorporating te reo into my language and my classes.

We are trying to learn to speak Te Reo more actively once a week, we are listening to more songs in Maori and my husband is trying to learn more about his Iwi and his daughters are actively helping him with this. , by encouraging them to all travel to days put on by his Iwi to learn more about there history.

This video is about the new words that I learnt during lockdown and while I was fully focused on Maori Language week . Snay Lata Manurewa South School

We had a zoom meet with some fellow students, done a bit of a whaikōrero and explained the parts, karakia tīmatatanga, then we all did our pepeha and sung a waiata and then karakia whakamutunga.

Kia ora, I played the Te Reo Waiata playlist on Spotify in the house and added as many kupu and kiwaha to my emails as I could fit in for the whole day, to connect with my team at mahi.

Great chance to learn new words

We recognised Te Wiki o te Reo Māori by sharing the importance at our weekly all company sync. We discussed the history of the language and the importance of our involvement in celebrating and learning more about te Reo. A bunch of us jumped on the kahoot quiz at midday Tuesday and had a great time learning and connecting.

Nutrition & Life encourages the use of Te Reo Māori phrases in our team members' emails. This week we have reminded the team of what they can do to include Te Reo Māori in their emails. We have also included at least one Te Reo Māori word per social post this week in support of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. It's a small start but we look forward to expanding this in the future as a 100% New Zealand owned and operated Dietitian service. It's heart-warming to see Aotearoa unite in this Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. Kia Kaha, Josephine and the Nutrition & Life team.

The Baha'i National Secretariat staff spent half an hour from 12 noon on Tuesday 14th Sept sharing learning, phrases, and singing in te Reo. A prayer for unity is one example: https://www. youtube. com/watch?v=Nia7RZNgN0g

My daughters chose their favourite waiata for us to sing together.

During our online staff hui we took the opportunity to sing a karakia together at midday. We then each shared a kupu Māori, whakataukī or pepeha and expressed manaakitanga in checking in with each other during this level whā lockdown in Tāmaki Makaurau. Karakia: E Te Atua, ārahina ahau, tiakina mai, kia meinga ahau hei rama pīataata, hei whetū tīramarama. Ko Koe te Mananui me te Pūkaha.

Maori Language week is a very important part of our school celebration and learning. We learn Waiatas, Maori Poems, Maori songs, Maori Pepeha which is an integral part of children's daily learning. In this lockdown our children started their zoom meetings with Karakia and our school Pepeha which is so cool. Every child knows the Pepeha so well. Our Maori leader in our school is Whaea Karen Hohaia. She is very supportive of our students and teachers by coming on our zoom meetings and guiding our students through songs , haka, listening to Waiatas and Poi dance. We humbly joined in and enjoyed this moment in time with her. We are very proud Manurewa South School. I am a beginner learner in Maori Language but I love the essence of the language. I would love to learn more.

Kia ora! Pokarekare Ana was the first Maori song that touched me deeply after I moved to Aotearoa from 20 China years ago. I kept telling myself I would learn to sing this song one day. I can't believe it took me this long! It was Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori that gave me the drive to finally make it.

I used greetings and phrases in my team meetings and encouraged others to do so. My daughter and I sung songs like the Alphabet and Colours and a Counting song. We also learned about our Pepehā.

This is me and my whanau celebrating maori language week.

We posted on Facebook and Instagram letting our followers and clients know to expect a Te Reo korero when we spoke and emailed them during Maori Language Week. We also let them know about the Te Reo lessons that our firm has been taking, in conjunction with Ngati Rehia.

Room 20 recorded Whakatauki to share with each other :)

We start every lesson with either a waiata (pre level 2) and now, a whakataukī and this week we read the legend of Hinemoa & Tūtānekai in French!

Ko te reo te taikura ō te whakaaro marama - language is the key to understanding This is my favourite whakatauki and I shared it with people.

I listened to both Dave Dobbyn's "Hine Ruhi" & Six60's "Pepeha" and enjoyed trying new words as they came up on the screen. I've also enjoyed listening to the news and weather on both TV1 and 3 with their Maori pronunciations. Scotty Morrison's phrases and words on Breakfast each morning were great. Also we have been sending out emails to our students and in the ones that I've compiled (3 days out of 5) I've included some Maori phrases and words. I will be continuing to use phrases and words where they are appropriate. Ka Kite
