E noho ana au kei tōku moenga, e panui ana ngā puka tamariki. Ae, he wahine pakeke ake au, engari he ngoikore tōku pīnati ki te maumahara! Sitting in bed reading reo Māori kids' books. Yes I'm a grownup (some would say 'old') but my memory is s*** and repetition through kids' books helps!

This year for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori we focused on the Reo and it being used more in our tari. Rāhina - We printed off posters and hung them up around the office and put out greetings that our kaimahi and tauira were using daily, Rātu - Mau rākau kemu ans tīti torea - E Papa waiata, our tauira really enjoyed this workshop! Rāapa - Waiata a ringa - Kia ora rā. Taught this to our tauria and they did amazing, forgot to get a video because we were running out of time to get them back into class. Rāpare - Rāranga. We harvested some harakeke for one of our kaimahis whenua and brought them into the tari to teach them some basic rāranga - He putiputi. 2 and 5 strand. We talked about the karakia before cutting, how to cut and that the first one you make, you have to give it away as a gift. Since it was quite a short time, we encouraged those that wanted to do their own, to find a rāranga class to learn more in depth. Rāmere - Kaihākere. Cooking boil up, māori bread and chowder this morning in the Hospitality class commercial kitchen together as kaimahi, play some tunes, have a katakata, learn about the role as ringawera and feed our whānau with a performance. Ake ake ake! ! ! ! ! ! !

Whanau were invited into our tamariki classroom for karakia and waiata. 26 kids and 20 whanau singing together and learning a new Maori action song. Ka rawe! ! Made my day.

Karakia every morning, followed by waiata. Also around our whare we are trying to encourage eachother to use te reo maori everyday by having things labeled in the house, then come Friday see how many things we can name without the labels. . . lets see who's paid attention hehe 😉 😀 😂

Learning and practicing some new karakia this week

At AudioCulture Iwi Waiata, we launched a major collection: The Māori Music Collection Ngā Puoro Arotini. The Māori Music Collection Ngā Puoro Arotini is a celebration by AudioCulture Iwi Waiata of Aotearoa’s rich history of waiata and puoro from all over the whenua. The collection spans the early 20th century to the 2020s, from early jazz to rock ’n’ roll, pop, reggae and hip hop. Included are profiles of digital-era innovators, artists who revived traditional taonga puoro, and all genres and eras in-between. Like AudioCulture Iwi Waiata itself, The Māori Music Collection is a work in progress. More artists will be added as time goes on.

I am using short phrases like haere mai and ka pai more to weave the language into my daily use.

I have used more te reo Maori when teaching my students. I haven't just done this during te wiki o te reo Maori, but I do this is all of time because most of my students attend Kura Kaupapa or Wharekura. I give instructions in te reo and praise.

I wanted to support

Its been a fantastic learning experience

I made a Te Reo Maori hoodie for myself, my husband and our children. We have both been wearing them at school so that it is seen as often as possible. We both work within a secondary school setting and our children have been wearing theirs all week at their respective workplaces and school.

I am using more Māori kupu in everyday kōrero and practicing longer greetings and responses. Plus reading the resources that are circulating around my workplace

We continue to learn karakia and waiata in the team I lead. Continue to learn new kupu and use these everyday

How does a tauiwi embrace the Kia ora energy this Māori Language Week? ———————————— We are celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, Māori Language Week as a non-indigenous New Zealander. We are embracing Te Reo Māori, not afraid to make mistakes and learn. I reached out to these amazing wāhine to join me in this video and it was an instant yes from all. Each of us is originally from a different country or of descent. Our accents are different. We don't look the same. But Aotearoa is now our common home. We acknowledge the Tangata Whenua and the native language of the land. And we also rejoice in the diversity and uniqueness of each of us, the Tangata Tiriti. ———————————— The theme for Te Wiki 2024 is “Ake ake ake – A Forever Language”. It represents the resilience, adaptability and endurance of the language. Disclaimer: This post is not commissioned by the Government, a political party or any other organisation. We are simply showing our support to te reo. ———————————— Connect Moumita Das Roy 🇮🇳🇳🇿 I write about: #SocialImpact #RacialEquity #DiversityAndInclusion ———————————— The post is available here: https://www. linkedin. com/posts/moumitadasroy_wonderingmo-socialimpact-racialequity-activity-7241891180051914752-6jjN

Flourishing our language in places where their are a range of mixed cultures. . ❤️

Everyday I incorporate at least a couple of words in Te Reo when speaking sentences also at work I greet in Te Reo to our fellow patients that come in and also end with “kia pai to ra”. Because our urgent care clinic has a different range of cultures I do also try to teach some of the admin staff/Drs and nurses on how to say simple Māori words they love the idea of learning our language as they know how important it is to us and our country.

For Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, I am trying to reclaim my knowledge in toi māori by learning how to make tukutuku panels from the whenua. I am still learning how and the correct tikanga surrounding it, but making the tukutuku design and weaving them has been a hobby of mine for two years. I have also taken upon myself to read the book "Aroha" written by Dr Hinemoa Elder and read about each whakatauki. I read her words and learn with each whakatauki that I can apply in my everyday life. I sing waiata whenever I can at home in my spare time as singing is something I enjoy, especially somgs from Kapa Haka. Since the beginning of the year I have been immersed with Maramataka and use the calender to reflect on my day. Lastly, I have started the 75 hard challenge to better my health and mind and so far it has been great. To end this off I shall share the whakatauki I currently feel aligned with; "E ngaki ana a mua, e tōtō mai ana muri - First clear the weeds, then plant. "

We've had Anton Matthews of Hustle Education join Cosgroves on Monday and help us with some basic Reo Maori. Great introduction to the language for many of our team and an important part of our engineering professional development

I took my team through the Te Reo Māori vowels: a as in papa e as in egg i as in eat o as in horn u as in two We talked about some place names eg Manurewa and how I used to say them - and then when I focus on the vowels I can pronounce it better. Also ran an activity in the same session called 'speed rabbit'. A game with 3 animals - rabbit, elephant and cow. People in a circle with one person in the middle who points to someone in the circle and says 'elephant' - that person then wraps them arms like a trunk and each person on either side have to make the ear shape with their arms ( a left and right). if anyone is slow to get the right movements that person then goes into the middle. The same with a rabbit and the cow - each with their own moves. After doing that a few times we then worked out what the te reo Maori word for rabbit, elephant and cow (rāpeti, arewhana and kau) and used those words in the game.

Learning Te Reo to keep the language alive and be able to Kōrero Māori for my whānau

I'm going to go along to Grey Lynn Library on Mondays 2-3pm to speak Te Reo with others. Try to use the odd Maori phrase around home. Investigate the pronunciation and meaning of Maori words I encounter (e g. Kahuha. . . )

We celebrated Te Reo Maaori, by opening up the Te Wiki o Te Reo event at NZMA Sylvia Park. We shared karakia, mihi, waiata and had a hangi for kaitahi. Beautifully cooked by Aunty Ngahuia.

Kia ora, As a learner, leader and teacher I thought I would model the use te reo Māori both in everyday and at work introducing Māori words like praise, greetings, motion and even feelings to gauge staff on how they are feeling. Staff are eager to learn and all join in which was really unexpected but I enjoyed our time and look forward to the continued learning and growing. (Selwyn Aquatic Centre) As a learner at the University of Canterbury. Participating in waiata and morning karakia has been such a fun and easy way to feel, connected, involved and uplifted for the rest of the day. I wish I took some photos for you enjoy.

Tēna tātau katoa - my celebration was small. I wrote my pepeha and shared it with my team at work.

it is good to be maori

Our whole office building has come together to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori! We've sectioned out an hour a day to learn about the language, why it's important, share stories. There are also days where we took a walk around the city to show the language is celebrated and still going strong. On Wednesday we celebrated with waiatas and games.

I have ensured that I have had korero with my team with Te Reo Māori becoming more prominant. I have been on a journey in discovering my reo and have been hesitant to incorpertate it in my professional setting due to my perception that it might cause people to be uncomfortable as they will not understand. By using an educational approach my team have really embraced the reo, trying at least one kupu a day. I have shared snippets of the history of Te Reo Maori to give the horopaki as to why this is such as important movement to get behind.

I want to celebrate te wiki o te reo Maori because the Maori are our ancestors and the Indigenous to New Zealand. Since Maori is becoming a dying language I want to do my part to keep it alive.

I hui tahi mātou o te uniana kiriwhakaari me ngā kupu e hāngai ana ki tō mātou ao whakaari.

We did a kupu pepeha kahoot! in form time - super competitive! Heaps of enthusiasm!

I researched some new Te Reo words to use for topics related to my work in social services and created some social media posts to share these with our community. I also practised using these words in my day to day work with people.

I have signed up to a Te Reo 101 class with Te Pukenga ☺

I HAVE A PLAN

Wharewhare (Bingo) with words to say each day

I am making a conscious effort every day to use te reo and stretching myself a bit more.
