Using an online numbers spinning wheel, the kids had a race to see who could write and say ngā tau up to 1000. It was amazing how fast they got.

Kia ora Aotearoa I have begun an online Te Reo course. I also decided to try my hand at making a rewana bug and then the bread. Ngákau reka!

As our work team is working from home I thought a fun way for us to connect would be to complete a quiz together, happy to say eveyone did really well in the quiz.

Our team spent half an hour talking about our own learning experiences of te reo and pronunciation of words. Loved focusing on our national language.

Kia ora, last year my wife and I did level 1 te reo Māori at TWOA. After karakia and kōrero with our close friends, we decided to bite the bullet and enter into full immersion te reo Māori at Te Wānanga Takiura. It was the best decision we could have made. For our family, for our future children, for our tūpuna and for our nation of Aotearoa. We believe learning te reo Māori will save lives. This video was taken at 12pm today in my rumaki reo class. Nui te aroha ki a koutou katoa ❤

Delicious hangi!

Tēnā koutou katoa. My team had a 1 hour zui, the majority of it was in te reo. Out of 7 of us I have the least reo capability, My new kupu for the day is 'Rumaki'. . . total emersion. Ngā mihi

We are from a Catholic school in Taupo. The kids start each morning saying the Lord's Prayer in Maori. So at 12pm today we shared it again to join the rest of New Zealand who are celebrating our national language.

Kia ora, ata marie, ka kite, kei te pēhea koe, noho ora mai, po marie - throughout the day, in person, on the phone and emails. . . .

Te Tari Arotaki Mātauranga | Education Review Office - Te Tai Raki | Northern Region Celebrating together by Zoom, singing Toro Mai

We begin each day of lockdown with karakia. Today we shared a reflection inspired by the whakataukī: Ko taku reo, taku ohooho, ko taku reo taku mapihi mauria. My language is my awakening, my language is the window to my soul.

Our learners had their Māori moment today at Noon. We all said Kia Kaha and then listened to a read-aloud of Rona and the Moon. Our tamariki loved it.

I enjoyed a number of different waiata as I learned to play them on my ukelele (beginner! ). Sorry no photo or video lol

This was produced along with 4 others that will encourage our tamariki in homebased care to practice their te reo. All videos are being uploaded onto our community facebook pages (one each day).

Kia ora Aotearoa! Ko Ashley Rakahuri toku kura. Kia kaha te reo Māori! At Ashley Rakahuri School, we love kapa haka and we are learning more te reo Māori every day. This is most of our school - our Year 7 and 8 students were away at tech unfortunately, so they missed out on this moment. Kia kaha!

I waiata māua ko tōku Mama "Te Aroha" i te waea pūkoro. E noho ana au i Whanganui-a-Tara. E noho ana tōku Māma i Ōtautahi. Nō Ingarangi māua ēngari ko Aotearoa tō māua kāinga ināianei. Nā konā e ako ana māua te reo Māori. Ko te reo te taikura ō te whakaaro marama. My Mum and I sang "Te Aroha" together on Whats App because we live in different cities- I'm in Wellington and she's in Christchurch. We are from England but feel Aotearoa/New Zealand is our home now and because of this we are always learning te reo Māori because this is the key to developing understanding and knowledge of this land and its people. Ngā mihi nui mō tēnei taonga.

Avid Beginner level learners of te Reo Māori, hubby Richard and I wanted to text with the intention of using as much of te Reo Māori as possible especially this week where we've been more focused to make an effort and this was the result of today's text kōrero and ako combo. This was part of a follow up check-in text thread from hubby as I had just delivered my weekly 5:30am LIVE Speak Fearlessly coaching call (which I renamed Kōrero Fearlessly today) helping wahine find their voice to Kōrero Fearlessly with confidence and competence. We discussed te Reo Māori revitalisation in Aotearoa and how we can be part of this movement, imagining a future where te Reo Māori is spoken fluently across Aotearoa . . . one sweet day! Anyway, the video is self explanatory and thought it would be a cool opportunity to record and share how to place a macron above vowels in text after giving some cheek to my Samsung phone using hubby. Arohamai in advance for any mispronounciations - we're getting there and loving the learning journey :)

Kia Ora Koutou, Ko Leini Laumua toku ingoa. I am writing on behalf of my workplace, Barnardos Mungavin ELC, Porirua. In the morning we greet the children and their families with Kia Ora, Tena koe or Morena followed by kei te pehea koe. During the day, children and adults use directions in Te Reo ie. haere ki te wharepaku, homai te pukapuka…etc At mat time we choose waiata from our waiata wall, today “ I runga te rākau” and choose a pukapuka, today we chose “How Maui found his father and the magic jawbone” with discussion. Next is lunchtime, where we horoi te ringaringa and then e noho for karakia to give thanks before we eat. The afternoon will continue in this fashion. This is our daily contribution as well as our celebration of Te wiki o Te Reo Māori. Ka kite a popo and haere rā 😊

Tēna Koūtou Katoa Currently learning this Waiata in our Te reo maori class that Trustpower had kindly given us the opportunity to do so. I am still learning the actions and I am still learning a lot of the language myself , but it has been an amazing journey very rewarding and fulfilling. Kia Kaha Te Reo Maori ! ! ! ! ! Ngā Mihi Nui

I wrote my own Pepeha

Had an awesome time reading '14 Ngā Tohu Aroha Ka Tukuna' by Wayne Youle. Had to do a lot of looking things up on Māori Dictionary but feeling so much aroha.

Te kura o Pakarana, Parklands school Motueka celebrated Te wiki o te reo Māori and 10 minutes of Māori language by a whole school waiata set. It was tumeke! Close to 200 participated and could be heard on the main street.

video icon

This took a few takes, a number of ideas and collaboration. But lots of learning through the process. Kia kaha te reo maori!

Our team each got together in an online meeting at lunch time. Josie explained to us the basic elements of a Pepeha and then we each used pepeha. nz to create our own Pepeha. We also practiced pronouncing it and sharing it with the team. It was a great bonding exercise where we each learnt a little bit more about where we came from.
