Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2022 | Māori Language Week 2022

He tau whakahirahira te tau 2022. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Māori Language Petition, an event that led to many of the kaupapa we have today, including Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.

If you want to add your photo, video or story to the wall, click the button below to share what you did.

I use te reo greetings with my team, we chose different words and sayings to share

I’m a kaiako at a kura. I ran a hui to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, where students said karakia, shared their pepeha, kapa haka sang waiata, and the whole kura sang waiata!

Caught up with our niece Waiorangi she her kura from Otaki while on our lunch break during the official launch of Tē wiki o tē reō Màori and 50th anniversary of the Māori Language Petition. Was a neat afternoon.

I work for a company of 9 Staff and there are 7 Pakeha& 2 Sth Africans so every morning I get to work & greet them with ‘Morena or ‘‘Kia Ora ‘ & they reply back with a ‘Tena koutou’ Now how cool is that for non Māori 👍🏼

Kia Ora My daughter has Te Reo Māori as a subject at her Kura. She is teaching us along the way. Each night this week she created a fun quiz for us to do as a whanau and have totally enjoy it. We’ve learnt lots of new words & sentences. So this week, we’ve been learning, laughing & embracing Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori 2022 as a whanau. Nga Mihi

I love to Watch whakataa maori Channel and repeat sentences, the haka is also very special to me. I'd like to share posts on Facebook and spread the Aroha that way. KiaOra

Teena koutou katoa. For te wiki o te reo Maaori we carried on as usual, I think it should be celebrated because it has been 50 years since the petition. . . But due to it being a week of te reo Maaori, we cary the tiikanga of implicating and affirming te reo Maaori into our everyday lives which we continue to do. Our practice of everyday te reo includes -waiata at my ECE centre and kapa haka every Wednesday. -Karakia every morning, waa kai me te poo. - He kai Maaori ko te paraoa paatai. - Ngaa pukapuka Maaori. - Te koorero Maaori ia raa hoki ahakoa kii whea, ko wai hoki. I am an ECE kaiako and there are a few kupu i have been using this week with the tamariki which is -Makawe -Anoo -Oneone -Waewae -Kei whea? Although we are mainstream with a range of diversed cultures, tamariki from the ages of 1-4 years of age develop a strong cognitive development for remembering and understanding different languages! It is best for them to learn as much from this age. Therefore our tamariki respond to the kupu Maaori and pick them up easily. Tooku reo tooku ohooho, tooku reo tooku mapihi maurea.

I took part in a series of online hui to learn more about Te Reo Māori. Learning more about pronunciation, my pepeha, some mihi and karakia. With the aide of a colleague I created signs to put up around the workplace to show the Māori translation for common items and created a sideshow for our customer facing TV, keeping it fresh each day. We then finished off the wiki with a Kahoot!

Thanks to Dave Dobbyn's release last year it inspired one of our young artists and he got his theatre mates to help him out with backing (his own "Herbs"

A beautiful saying for a beautiful whanau and friends

I tae mātou ko Te Whānau Kōtuku ki Paremata ki te whakanui i ngā rima tekau tau mai te petihana reo Māori.

Increased the use of Te Reo where I was able to (with my limited Reo I know) in my communication at work and home (and in emails).

For Te wiki o te reo māori and the 50th anniversary celebrations, I tuned in to the Live broadcast on Whaakata Māori, of the event at Parliment. I sung along with most waiata, but definitely was louder for Nga Iwi E at Noon.

Kia Ora! I tēnei tautoko o te Wiki o te reo Māori, it was our bright idea as Māori leaders in our kura to share a little bit of te Ao Māori with our peers, and what better way to whakawhanaungatanga than over food! So we decided to make our school some free boil up! The turn out was great, most students didn’t even know what boil up was so it was quite special to share a little bit of my “childhood on the marae” with them!

In our offices (3 in Auckland) we are getting together with staff, learning a karakia and explanation, learning a poi waiata, playing a rakau game and sharing hangi and kai together,

Ko te whānau o Te Ahurei Toi o Tāmaki | Auckland Arts Festival i tō mātou Reo Māori moment. Kia kaha tātou ki te kōrero Māori. Kia kaha te reo Māori!

I was lucky enough to take part in a senior school waiata on the North Shore of Auckland at 12pm on the dot.

I brought a tee, the tino rangatiratanga signed by Linda Munn.

In addition to learning a phrase a day led by students from Ngā Kākano Class (Māori Bilingual Unit) at Sunnyvale Primary School, some of our tamariki and kaiako participated in 'pass the poi' around our kura. The video shows 'The journey of the poi'.

Ko te rōpu i te pikitia ko Te Whānau Kōtuku ki te kura tuatahi o Paraparaumu. E rua ngā akomanga i te rōpu nei, kotahi akomanga tuākana, kotahi akomanga tēina. E mahi ana ahau i te akomanga tuākana, he kaiāwhina ahau. Mō Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori i tēnei tau, ka haere mātou ki te whakanui petihana, e 50 tau, he mea whakahirahira mō ngā tamariki. I noho ki Paremata mātou, i waiata, i kai, i katakata, i ako hoki mātou. Ko ēnei tamariki, ko te rangatira ō ngā rā kei te heke mai.

My year two students sang and performed- Utaina Mai na waka to celebrate te wiki o Te Reo Maori… they love the six60 -Pepeha song too.

Whaowhia te kete mātauranga. I kōrero ahau i te reo māori, I ako ahau i kupu hou. e mihi ana ki tōku whānau ki āwhina mai kia kaha te reo māori My most fun and informed Te Wiki o Te Reo yet, can't wait to learn more and more!

For Māori Language week I am working towards learning new Kupu-words daily. Lately I’ve been using new Kupu I’ve learnt in my everyday activities. Whilst speaking to my 7month old son who I practice teaching Color’s numbers animals and asking questions to. These steps have encouraged me to speak Māori more and more. I am looking forward to my son being proud and confident to speak Reo whilst out with me. We are raising a generation of people who stand firm in their identity ❤️

I’ve been taking a Te Reo Māori class and felt confident enough this year to bring it into my workplace more. I taught my coworker a little of what I’ve learned and we challenged our members use greetings in Te Reo Māori. It’s been neat seeing people try a bit more and other enlighten us with corrections, new words and phrases.
