#reomaori Te Wiki o te Reo Māori Kia koa Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2021 Happy Māori language week. Here is my pepeha whānau 😊🙏.

At our fortnightly team meeting we said an additional karakia, used favourite kupu we've learnt recently and some of the team did extra waiata practice this morning because they thought we'd miss the Maori Moment. Tu meke!

At Otahuhu intermediate School we have a passion for learning Te Reo. The picture is one of the many readings we did as part of our Matariki Celebrations. Titled "Together in Love. The legend of Matariki" Woven and illustrated by Xoe Hall. The creation story and the love of Ranginui and Papatuanuku. A well loved story and Book at OIS.

I sang songs I hear at Waahi Pa, where my mother grew up, eg, "Ahakoa he iti noa he pounamu, He tohu aroha" and "Purea nei"❤️🖤💚💛

We had a junior school "Teddy bears picnic". All the kiwi team bought a teddy or toy and some kai. We watched a story about a bear. Looked at the Maori names for some kai. Sang a song and said a karakia before we ate our kai with our bears. It was really fun.

Koinei nga tauira o te Kura Potiki (Tau 7/8) & Maataatahi (Tau 8/9) no Te Wharekura o Mauao me to ratou waiata motuhake e whakaatu ana i te pepeha o te kura araa: " Kia tu rangatira au i te ao "

Mauri ora e te iwi, ko Lilo tōku ingoa. Kia kaha ki te kōrero Māori!

Kia ora koutou As a kaiako pitomata working with year 10 ākonga in global studies today, 23 of us participated in the Te Reo Māori Moment. We began our lesson watching Stan Walker's music video, Aotearoa and at 12 noon we learnt a whakatauākī by King Pōtatau Te Wherowhero being : "kotahi te kohao o te ngira e kuhuna ai te miro mā, te miro pango, te miro whero" - through the eye of the needle pass the white thread, the black thread, and the red thread. As a class we discussed how this whakatauākī encompasses inclusivity, partnerships, and collaboration and connects well to our study on human rights. At the end of our lesson today we enjoyed more waiata: Poi E and Pepeha by Six60. Kia kaha, kia manawanui, kia haumaru :-)

We can all contribute, kia kaha te reo māori

Who doesn't love a good sing-song to Tūtira mai ngā iwi. Something we all know and could do easily.

We wore masks and observed social distancing - be safe in these times, eh!

I practiced my mihi with my husband and 8 year old son.

Kirsty at the Te Whanganui-a-Tara office of PPTA Te Wehengarua, catching up on some kupu hou.

My 7yo son randomly selected this whakatauki for me to share in a Zui today. It’s out of the awesome pukapuka by Dr Hinemoa Elder and turns out, it was from Te Wharehuia Milroy who years ago gave me the name for our son 😍

Kia ora, today i learnt alot about maori language week and how it is so important to New zealand. And how its so special to us.

I am pregnant and my class were really excited to find out the baby's gender but we went into lockdown just before my ultrasound appointment. I decided to share it with them when we returned to Kura in Level 2. I taught them how to say "He kotiro - it's a girl! " and "He tama - it's a boy" and we had a 'mini' gender reveal.

Four of us at the Upper Hutt Women's Centre sang four Maori songs. Kia ora tatou!

Kia ora, I am now 70, but I was a teacher in the Early Childhood Department of the Correspondence School. My area was from Hicks Bay down the east coast to Wairoa. I often travelled to Ruatoria to help some local waahine set up an early childhood centre. At the time I wrote to nga tamariki in te reo and used te reo Maori with parents and whanau. (I can't find the macron facility) Anyway it has been 15 years or so since I gave up teaching and the adage "If you don't use it you loose it" is very true. I also learnt Italian for 20 years, as I am part Italian. I live in Otaki so I do get the opportunity to be involved in te reo on occasions at tangi, hui and kori kaumatua. I look forward to renewing and learning alongside your help and knowledge. Nga mihi Jennie
