#MyMihi

Here is a pikitia of some of my ākonga and I. We recited over a karakia they're learning while we waited for the live to kick off however, as there were technical issues we carried on with our class encouraging tauira to only speak Reo Māori during this time. We also watched the video of the movement to date (from last years Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori) and it definitely brought up strong feelings, hakaaro, and touched the hearts of all in many ways - Familiar faces in the kiriata, the movement it self - our progress and the support we all often need in our leanring journey when the going gets tuff. Mauri ora!

At 12noon on Tuesday 14 September, everyone in Aotearoa including Stuff is being encouraged to join the award winning Māori Language Moment to celebrate te reo Māori. As part of this movement Stuff (Puna) my workplace has organised The Great Stuff te reo Māori Quiz falicitated by our work colleague Carmen Parahi. We had multiple teams from across the coutry who work for Stuff and participated in this quiz. There were 3 rounds in an quiz that took an hour to complete. Tuatahi - Round 1: Te reo Māori focused quiz - language, history, weird and wonderful. Tuarua - Round 2: Each team member will have to act. Tuatoru - Round 3: A different kind of team challenge. I am in the bottom right on the photo.

Lockdown affects people in many ways and we should always be aware of our hauora (wellbeing). For Māori Language Moment, Auckland Softball are sharing a model designed by leading Māori health advocate Sir Mason Durie. The model describes health and wellbeing as a wharenui/meeting house with four walls. When all four walls are in balance, we thrive. When one or more of these is out of balance, our wellbeing is impacted. Over the next four days, we will dive into each part of the wharenui and share ways we can maintain a balanced hauora during lockdown 💙

At our school BMPS we had a teddys bears picnic where there was stories, poems and action songs in Te Reo and all the children joined in. We did a karakia together and ate kai.

Kia kaha te reo māori!

I tēnei wiki, kei te tīmata ahau ki panui i tētahi pukapuka. Ngā kaupapa o tēnei pukapuka i ngā whakataukī me te Mātauranga Māori. For Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, I am reading Aroha by Dr Hinemoa Elder, and although the book isn't in te reo, it touches on some very important kaupapa and ways to incorporate the values from whakataukī into your life, which seems quite fitting to read this week. I am also planning on enrolling in a Te Reo course at Te Herenga Waka next year as I start university.

We are the Kapa Haka Performing Group from Rosehill School (a special school based in Papakura, Auckland). Our students work extremely hard to learn all of the waiata, actions and haka that go into the performance. The students have found the lock down hard but were overjoyed and very proud of themselves for participating in this nation wide event. I must say that doing this over Zoom was rather challenging, I hope you all enjoy, kia ora to koutou ra manaaki.

Our team from MEA gathered to share how we are applying Te Reo in our daily lives, some of the struggles we have all encountered in learning and speaking Māori and share tips and tricks along the way. Then we tuned into the awesome video Te Taura Whiri have put together and reflected on the journey and struggles we have endured as a nation to keep our language alive.
