He tau whakahirahira te tau 2022. This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Māori Language Petition, an event that led to many of the kaupapa we have today, including Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.

I like to watch Ahikaroa to inspire me speaking Te Reo. I also like watching Ako & Korero mai or any films to help me gain knowledge on Maori TV. When I speak to others or post videos, I’m always using Maori kupu, & it helps them to understand more kupu as well.

I taught a facilitated an activity for our morning meeting at work today with a fun game/version of “Pako” where the whole office surprisingly got involved and enjoyed to start off our day. It changed the mood from our usual mundane morning start up meetings with a lot laughter and showed our competitiveness.

Makomako Māori School 1958-1960. We were lucky enough to be part of their 'Maori Action Song' group and to learn waiata, haka, poi and tī rākau and even compete against another Māori School at a local marae. Our warm acceptance and inclusion by our classmates and their whānau has had a profound effect on me throughout my life and inspired me to learn some basic Te Reo Māori.
